Epic Fantasy - An Interview with Devin Arscott
Putting fantasy back into comics with this new Imprint Label!
Hello and good morning Geeks and Nerds! Today, our good friend Devin Arscott from Epic Fantasy joins us to discuss his new imprint label and much more. Devin, thank you so much for taking the time to swing by and chat, how are you doing today?
Devin - I’m doing absolutely fantastic today. Thanks for asking, Cody! It is always such a pleasure to stop by and talk comics with you. I’m very excited to get into things.Â
Cody - I know we have chatted previously about your creator-owned IP Magni the Mighty as well as discussing your role as Publisher for Bearer of Ages, but for anyone who may be reading for the first time can you give us a little bit about yourself?
Devin - Certainly. For those that are new to who I am, and what I do; My name is Devin Arscott, and I’m a writer, editor, and creator of the comic imprint Epic Fantasy. I am a long-time comic book reader and collector, and after many years have finally made my way into creating! I’ve been working passionately on comics since 2019, and have been a part of many different comics such as Magnus (Wise Acre Comics), World’s Away, Galactic Patrol Delta (Godhood Comics), and my own IP Magni the Mighty (Band of Bards). Also, I’m a certified workaholic, if you couldn’t tell by the various accolades, haha.Â
Cody - So what is Epic Fantasy? Can you tell us a bit about your imprint label and why you created it? If I am not mistaken you already have a couple of characters created as well as The Sentinel #1 under your brand?
Devin - Epic Fantasy originally was intended to be the imprint that I release all my self-published works. After a lot of time thinking about it, I realized that I wanted to share this experience with my friends and other peers who I knew could flourish under the imprint. This lead me to go through my short list of peers I wanted to collaborate with, and I ultimately decided to choose two individuals to join me in the beginning — Isaac Willbanks and CJ Hudson.
As for your other question, you’re correct, Cody. Epic Fantasy has a nice stable of characters and IP under our lovely studio. The Sentinel was our first successful project, and now we are currently heading toward success with Bearer of Ages; which is currently sitting at 45% funded. Ultimately, Epic Fantasy is a studio that is all about collaboration and the success of everyone involved. We want to bring fresh, new ideas to the world and we cannot do that without the support of the comics community.
Cody - What are you looking for in a comic book to have it published under your brand? Are there certain criteria you are looking for when scouting a new book?
Devin - My biggest criteria for new projects is dependent on quality. There has to be the perfect balance in quality for art and writing to really draw me to something. Fortunately, I know the quality that is being brought to our fold by the creators involved in this with me. Otherwise, I’m not too concerned with anything else for the moment outside of professionalism in the workplace and keeping tight deadlines.Â
Cody - Outside of your current lineup for Epic Fantasy, can you give us an idea of what the rest of 2023 is going to look like for you?
Devin - You’re really asking the hard questions! Ha, I jest. The year is actually jam-packed with some fantastic projects that I’m very proud of. Noir: Defender of Darkness, Endless Hunt, and a really exciting comics drop that begins in June for Epic Fantasy. Outside of these ventures, I’ve been writing a YA graphic novel for Wolven Press, more Magni the Mighty material, and hoping to finish my book that speaks on breaking into comics. I’m placing all bets on the table this year and looking to win big with all my friends in tow.Â
Cody - Are there any social media platforms you would like to shout out to our readers? Speaking of readers, if you reached this point Bearer of Ages is currently running a Kickstarter here, be sure to help make it happen!
Devin - You can all follow me on Twitter and Instagram at CBDev95. I’d love for everyone to follow Epic Fantasy’s newsletter, which is in my Twitter bio!Â
Cody - Thank you so much for the interview Devin, I appreciate your willingness to be the first of hopefully many!! I can’t wait to see Bearer of Ages get funded so you can get to work on the next IP coming from Epic Fantasy.
Devin - Anytime, Cody! It’s always such a pleasure being able to speak with you and chop it up. I’m excited to get Bearer of Ages into everyone’s hands along with all the other IP coming from Epic Fantasy this year. We all hope that everyone enjoys what we’ve got coming, as it’s been a blast to create the various projects we have.
